Though I'm quite sure you weren't.
I usually manage to post one or two things a month, but that hasn't been the case recently. That's because I tried to push myself, challenge myself with something I happened upon:mebigbang.livejournal.com/1814…
Rather than give you a mess of links, that one post should have everything, including where the artist is. Although, since she's right here, I am compelled to direct you to her one more time, because she deserves support: maxwell-demon.deviantart.com/
I'll also take this time to recommend the story of my "beta reader", the person who helped get my story internet-ready: mebigbang.livejournal.com/2427…
It's funny, in a way. I think my biggest motivation was to add variety to the fandom. I remember looking over people's posts, seeing what they planned to do, and well...I saw certain themes blend together (translation: M!Shenko, M!Shenko everywhere! I was legitimately surprised, I thought it would be all Shakarian or...whatever Shepard/Tali is called...Shali? Maybe that's just the LiveJournal community's preference? Ah well). Sort of like my motivation for attempting to draw; lot of nice stuff out there, but not a lot of the things/characters I like specifically...or the ones that do are less flattering...so eventually I say to myself, "Looks like it's up to me" and just do it.
Still, I was reluctant. There's almost nothing I do that's spur of the moment; I often contemplate doing something for weeks or months before going into action. I was not given the luxury this time, though, so finally I decided...nothing to it but to do it. Although I am very aware that what I wrote--a "Shepley" story featuring a custom made, straight, male Shepard--is apparently fandom poison, but whatever. If I just made a handful of people out there happy, that's good enough for me.
Glad I did, too. I'm usually a solitary worker, but it felt so wonderful to get meaningful feedback. My artist and beta reader were very kind to me; I'm keeping the email exchanges so I can look at them whenever I feel I can't do something.
I'm already feeling braver, if not just in regards to writing. I've already started a few other stories; I fully intend to make use of my new AO3 account. Still thinking of...transitioning to other places. DeviantArt just...isn't the best fit. I don't know; anyone out there want to recommend Tumblr or Dreamwidth or something, I'll gladly listen to your testimony.
